Senior Mechanical Engineer Green H2 & Derivatives

Your mission / Objectives of the position

  • The applicant will participate in the development of the company’s green hydrogen and derived e-Fuels projects, focusing on all mechanical engineering aspects of the projects, from early development stage to construction, ensuring these are developed and maintained to the relevant acceptable standards and applicable legislation. 

  • Our Power to X production projects will be based on dedicated renewable power sources feeding large scale water electrolysis systems. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer of large-scale industrial projects, you will be interacting with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external, including project managers, project engineers, contractors and equipment suppliers. Effective communication will help you convey key mechanical engineering principles to ensure safe and reliable operations.

  • Commitment to follow engineering standards and guidelines, as well as attention to detail to identify any potential risks for the project which may impact on overall project value will be fundamental tasks to comply with. 

  • Furthermore, a pleasure for successful project execution is mandatory, as you will be assisting on mechanical engineering activities during construction phase through collaborative working with multiple contractor companies and equipment suppliers to achieve project goals.
Tasks and responsibilities

  • Primarily focus on Static Equipment where you will act as a mechanical expert, ensuring consistency of the engineering design throughout its various stages and with-it efficiency during construction and operation, performing a set of tasks, including but not limited to:
    • feasibility assessment and early conceptual design.
    • equipment cost estimation.
    • preparation of standard specifications for the design, manufacturing and supply of mechanical equipment.
    • follow-up and review of Front End Engineering and Design, and Detailed Engineering documentation, developed by third parties.
    • follow-up and review of manufacturer’s documentation.
    • support to the quality inspection activities, from KOM to FAT, regarding design deviations and qualifications proposed by manufacturers and EPC contractor.

  • Ensure design compliance, meaning that the design of all equipment complies with applicable international standards and local legislative requirements and shall be safe and reliable to operate.

  • Interaction with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external, ensuring effective communication and providing engineering judgement to design deliverables review during engineering phase and deviation requests during construction phase.
 
  • Provide technical support during construction phase.
 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Your profile / requirements

  • Demonstrable experience of a minimum of 12 years in mechanical engineering and design of large-scale industrial projects, i.e., oil & gas or heavy chemical industry projects, from Feasibility Assessment stage throughout to Detailed Engineering.
 
  • Experience in working with software for static equipment design (PV Elite, AutoPIPE Vessel, or other similar), focusing on the preliminary design and manufacturers design review.
 
  • Broad experience of key engineering codes and standards including the Pressure Equipment directive and harmonized standards as well as the Machinery Directive and ASME/ASTM standards related to piping and mechanical equipment.
 
  • Experience in supervising and overseeing FEED and DE performed by third parties, ensuring its compliance with pre-established project requirements, standards, codes and regulations. 

  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal). Portuguese will be a plus.
Desirable Skills

  • Experience in engineering and design of green hydrogen plants.
 
  • Other languages skills (German, Spanish, Italian).
